Welcome to the third post of Choosing the Perfect..... Today we are focusing on DJ's, a very important part of your reception! Ask about your date - Do they book more than one event on the same day?
- Will the person you talk with actually be the DJ for your day or will it be someone else? If it is another person make sure you meet them before signing any contracts, sometimes personalities don't match.
Ask about price - What packages do they offer?
- What is included and what is not included?
- How much extra is it to add time if your reception is going longer than you expected?
- Do they have extras like microphones, lights, etc.
Ask about experience - How long have they been a DJ?
- How many weddings have they done?
- Do they work with an assistant and what is the assistants skill level?
Ask about music - How many songs do they have in their library?
- Do they play requests?
- Can you provide a do not play list?
You want someone who takes an interest in what YOU want. You want a DJ who is flexible so that any request from you guests can be fulfilled. You also want someone who can read your guests and get them up and dancing if thats what you want. Need suggestions? Let me know, I have worked with some amazing DJ's!! Love and Happiness, Morgan

In this is second post for my Choosing the Perfect....... I will be talking about choosing the perfect photographer. I always tell brides that photography is not something you want to skimp on. Your wedding day will fly by and you won't remember everything, if you have a great photographer there they will capture those special moments so you can have them forever. Again here are some helpful questions to ask when interviewing photographers. Ask about experience - How long have you been doing this?
- How many weddings have they done? *A really great landscape photographer that is just getting into weddings may not have the experience you are looking for.
Ask to see their work - Ask for a portfolio of wedding shots. It does not give you an accurate idea of how your wedding photos will turn out if they only show you 3 or 4 wedding photos and then senior or family pictures.
- Find out what style of photography they use.
Ask about equipment - What type of equiment will they be using? Even if you don't know anything about cameras, the photographer should be comfortable explaining what they use.
- Will they have back up equipment with them?
Ask about the price - What packages to they offer and exactly what is included?
- Do they offer digital packages?
- Do they give you your photos on a CD?
- Is an engagement session included?
Make sure to do your homework. Look online for reviews and samples of their work before you meet with them. You will be spending a lot of time with your photographer and need to feel comfortable with them. Interview a few different people to find the best one who fits your personality as well as what you are looking for. I have a list of wonderful photographers, let me know if you need suggestions. Venue: One of the first things you should do after you set a date is book your venue. Good venues book fast, sometimes more than a year in advance. Keep in mind that if you have your heart set on a specific venue you may have to change your date if they are already booked on the one you wanted. Below are a few helpful questions to think about when looking for the perfect venue. Ask about size and particulars of the venue - How many guests can they accommodate.
- Is there a bride/groom room?
Ask about the number of hours - How many hours will you have for the rental?
- What time will you have access to the venue for decorating?
- What time does the music have to end?
- Is there time they day before for your rehearsal and is that included in the price or extra?
Ask about what is included in the rental - Are tables and chairs included? If so, how many are incuded?
- If it is both indoor and outdoor venue ask if there is a suffecent amount of chairs for both locations or if they will need to be reset after the ceremony.
Ask about the decor of the facility - Are there any decorating restrictions or items not allowed?
- If there are decorations up that you like when you tour the facility make sure they will still be available on your wedding day.
- Can you take down items or make changes to the current decor.
Ask about food and beverage - Is there a prefered caterer you are required to use?
- What type of kitchen is onsite?
- Is there a certian alcohol vendor you must use?
- Are there restrictions on they type of alcohol allowed?
- Do you need to provide an olcc server or do they have one?
Ask about extras - Do they require you to carry wedding liablility insurance and in what amount? *check with your homeowners insurance as some have a rider that covers off site events, or call an insurance agent to find one.
- Do they require you to have security?
- Is there a set up/ tear down or cleaning fee?
Make sure before you book that you read your contract carefully . Everything you discuss that will be incuded needs to be in writing in the contract. Read every line and make sure there are no extra charges added that were not discussed. Don't forget to take a copy of the contract with you on your wedding day just in case there are any issues. Love and happiness, Morgan
